December  2002 Column

HTCResearch.com

For years now Wade and I both have been advising anyone who will listen to move away from the large, Internet-based career sites that all our clients now use and move towards learning how to recruit the more passive candidates from among the millions of resumes available for free to any recruiter. We have talked about techniques, training classes, books and other training materials to hasten your learning curve in this endeavor but…there comes a time when you have to ask yourself…are you a Sourcer or a Recruiter? If the answer is Recruiter then read on…

To become an expert at extracting each and every passive resume, contact, lead, etc. that you can from the Internet takes an extraordinary amount of time in both training and then labor to perform the search. To properly conduct and Internet sourcing assignment by following an approved methodology takes many hours per search. So…you can take the time it requires to become the expert, do a half-you-know-what job, or, you can employ an expert in this field, as many of you have and do regularly.

Sometimes called sourcing, research, resource, name/lead generation companies, this month we spoke with Jesse Hahn, President of HTC Research Corp. (www.htcresearch.com) about how his company stands above their competition. We have reviewed others in this field previously in this column including Recruiters Aid, Tiburon Group and then Wade and I do some of this type of work at Swat Recruiting, Inc. so we practice what we preach. Some of their finer points…

·        Been in business since 1995.

·        Staff of 40 researchers.

·        Worldwide client base.

·        Provides customers with qualified, interested candidates for a simple flat fee.

·        Guarantee they are “fresh” qualified candidates and that they are not generated from some old outdated database.

·        Never buy information from other sources.

·        Expert staff knowing how to penetrate the job market, locate and identify the exact target companies and candidates from whatever fields or backgrounds may be desired.

·        Are normally able to supply the first candidates, if not finish the entire project, within 48 to 72 hours.

·        Have their own database of over 400,000 names, 190,000 profiles, and 130,000 resumes in a fully web enabled database.

Pricing…a wide array of options. Their full pricing is readily available on their Web site but they charge as little as $50.00 a name or $500.00 a profile. Their service provides you with lists of candidates that are guaranteed to be technically qualified for your position.

Although I did not personally try their service they seemed very qualified to run any type of search you could throw at them. You can visit their Web site or contact Jesse Hahn via email at jesse@htcresearch.com or voice at 888-499-4482 ext 201 for more information.

Ajob4Engineers.com

For any engineering recruiter out there here is a niche service you might check out. Straight from their email…

·        Save time by saving your favorite searches

·        Unlimited job posting - all the time.

·        $69.95 for your first 30-da7 access.

·        Free FlipDog job posting.·

Visit their Web site at www.ajob4engineers.com and see if this is of interest to you.

HotResumes.com

Although I haven’t tried this myself I am tempted. You normally get what you pay for but at $99 per year you couldn’t go broke. They also offer a free search to get a feel for the service.

HotResumes.com claims to be one of the fastest growing resume databases on the internet. They actively search free resumes sources including large, small, specialty, niche and general Internet databases, plus resume news groups and are able to index 1000's of new resumes monthly into their database to search. They also run campaigns to get more candidates to post directly into the HotResumes.com database.

Their ad says they offer the ability to save searches, personal folders, quick contact feature for candidates, resume archives, and unlimited job postings…a lot for the price.

You can check them out at www.hotresumes.com.

Biotechcareers.com

For any BioTech recruiters out there…a site for you to check out as well. I did take a look at their home page and was impressed by the industry news prominently posted. These people definitely do their homework. Straight from their email…

“Free until 2003, Biotechcareers.com (www.biotechcareers.com), the web's premier life sciences career site is offering free service through December 31, 2002.  You'll be able to:

ResumeDoctor.com

Last month we spoke about Mike Worthington of ResumeDoctor and his effort to compile a list of pet peeves recruiters have about resumes. We listed the top twenty but I wanted to mention Mike has these now available on his Web site at:

www.resumedoctor.com/ResourceCenter.htm#petpeevesurvey

Free Resumes – ResumeWahoo.com

I recently received an email from ResumeWahoo.com telling of their resume distribution service, which is free for recruiters. Their email states that they offer “employers/recruiters efficient & dynamic recruiting solutions, including resume screening, configurable candidate routing, and a qualification matrix that ensures prospective candidates properly fill open positions and requirements.”

By joining their service you get unlimited resumes of candidates currently in the job market delivered to you. The service is free as they collect almost $40 from the candidates that use their resume distribution service.

You don’t have to enter the site to get resumes but need to do so to create and edit your profile, where you state where you want the resumes to come from geographically, the industries you work and the job categories you work. You select your password when you sign up.

I signed up, of course, and you can as well, for free, by visiting their employers/recruiters page at http://www.resumewahoo.com/employers/ and clicking on the “Get Signed Up!” button.

PCRecruiter Update

PC Recruiter, an ATS system reviewed previously in this column, has announced an update to their system. Straight from the email…

“The PCRecruiter Resume Inhaler is an add-on module to the PCRecruiter application.  It's role is to import resumes into the database from folders either in an e-mail program and/or folders on a C: drive.”

This feature is a “must have” with any ATS system, especially for those recruiters dealing in a high volume of candidates.
